The Founding Members
In 2009 two Milton Keynes Paediatric Community Sisters identified the need for a support network for bereaved parents for Milton Keynes and the surrounding area. Soon joined by 2 sets of bereaved parents who both wanted the support as well as sharing the vision and drive to establish a friendly welcoming group to help others the Milton Keynes Bereaved Parents Group was formed.
Ursula and Nancy – (both now retired from their roles as nurses) have helped many families over the years prepare for the loss of a child through illness and helped them to seek support for both themselves and others affected by the loss.
Bruce and Val lost their daughter Lucy aged 14 to cancer in 2007 and Ian and Claire lost their son Daniel in 2009 suddenly to septicaemia aged 23 months.
Both families have experienced the long dark path of grief and continue to work though the days without their children, but together with Ursula and Nancy they facilitate the group and openly share their experiences with others in the hope that giving parents the opportunity to come together, talk freely in an informal setting brings comfort and support to others, something that was lacking in Milton Keynes when they needed it the most.
The team are lucky to also be supported by Jean who is a volunteer for the Milton Keynes Bereavement Service. Jean is always on hand to offer one to one support to any parent or parents who come to the meetings and wish to discuss something in private or just feel they can’t face a large group of strangers.
